PIGS

Mangalitza’s

All of our pigs graze pastures and woodlands, supplemented with a porridge made with home grown cereals and milk bought back from our vending machines

Mangalitza pigs, also known as Mangalica or woolly pigs, are a Hungarian breed known for their distinctive curly hair and high-quality, flavourful pork.

The Mangalitza, a woolly pig breed was almost wiped out in 1993, when the total worldwide numbers fell to fewer than 150 breeding sows. However, thanks to a small group of breeders, the Mangalitza has been slowly gaining traction across mainland Europe, famed for its incredible eating quality, likened to the Kobe beef of the cattle world.

Despite being woolly, we move them to dry and sheltered ground in colder months where they can help cultivate the old leys (land temporarily put down to grass). They also enjoy grazing on fields of arable stubble.

All of our animals play an important role in the farm system, making use of all resources and ensuring nothing goes to waste.
